Creating Barcodes in Excel

To create a barcode in Excel, follow these steps:

  • Select one or more cells that contain the data you want to encode in the barcode.

  • Click on Selection To Barcodes button on the toolbar or ribbon[^1^].

  • Select the barcode type you want from the drop-down list. You can choose from 23 types of barcodes, such as Code 39, Code 128, UPC-A, EAN-13, PDF 417, DataMatrix, QR Code, etc.

You can also create auto-incrementing barcodes with the Sequential wizard[^1^], create barcode labels formatted in one of hundreds Avery label formats[^1^], or create dynamic barcodes that update whenever the cell changes[^1^].

To create a barcode in Word, follow these steps:

Printing Barcodes in Excel and Word

To print barcodes in Excel and Word, you can use the normal print function of your program. However, there are some tips to ensure the best quality and readability of your barcodes:

  • Use a high-resolution printer. The higher the resolution, the more accurate the barcode image will be.

  • Use a smooth paper. Rough or textured paper can cause the barcode image to be distorted or blurred.

  • Align the barcode image with the print direction. If the barcode image is not aligned with the print direction, it can cause the bars to be uneven or jagged.

  • Avoid scaling or resizing the barcode image. Scaling or resizing the barcode image can affect the proportions and dimensions of the bars, which can make the barcode unreadable.

  • Test your barcodes before printing large quantities. You can use a barcode scanner or an online barcode verifier to check if your barcodes are readable and valid.
